"But housekeeping is fun, and I think the women who hate it lack imagination. It is one job where you enjoy the results right along as you work. You may work all day washing and ironing, but at night you have the delicious feelingof sunny clean sheets and airy pillows to lie on. If you clean, you sit down at nightfall with the house shiningand faintly smelling of wax, all yours to enjoy right then and there.
And if you cook---ah, if you cook---that creation you lift from the
oven goes right to the table."

~~Gladys Taber, Stillmeadow Seasons~~

I don't know if I can get behind Gladys first sentence part B. But, I sure like the rest of her comments.
It started me to wonder, do any of you have any of Gladys' recipes?  I have yet to purchase one of her cookbooks.

That quote puts me in the "spring cleaning" mood! I love the smell of clean sheets and a house open to the sunshine and fresh air. I think I'm better at cleaning than cooking but I do have Gladys Taber's Stillmeadow Cook Book. It's fun to read her comments at the end of many recipes...makes you feel like you are standing next to her in her kitchen:) I'll be happy to share any recipes from the book.

Great to "see" you hear, it will be so pleasurable to discuss her and her life with others who appreciate her too. I hope this community grows, it was a brilliant idea!
I think on a day like today here in New England ( forty degrees and sunny ), Gladys would have the windows opened for a spell to do just that, let in the fresh air and sunshine! I think that people have lost the appreciation of the benefits of airing out bedrooms like they used to. I'll do that as soon as I get off this computer.
Back then they used bee's wax for polishing their furniture. I remember how wonderful that smelled. Pledge is okay but...something gets lost in the translation. *smile*

I wonder what Jill would be doing while Gladys was puttering about the house?

Thanks, that's so nice of you. I was wondering if anyone had a favorite recipe they had tried. I really must get all of her books AND look into what her friend Faith Baldwin wrote as well.
